Situated in the heart of the town of Whangarei.

The entrance to the marina is through the Te Matau a Pohe opening bridge. While many vessels will be able to pass under the bridge without requiring the bascule (lifting platform) to be raised, vessels over 6.5 metres in height will need to phone or radio a request to bridge control to see if the bridge needs to be lifted.

280 pontoon, finger and pile berths. Multihull berths available. All facilities, laundry, WiFi, TV lounge, BBQ, book swap library, free pump-out (at nearby Riverside Drive Marina), rubbish and recycling.  Marine services nearby.

A children’s playground, art museum, restaurants, swimming pools, tourist information center and shops surround the marina.

New arrival live-aboards can only stay short term as transient sailors.  The marina is at capaity with long-term liveaboard allocaations.

A new 116-berth marina – Okara Marina – is being built in the Upper Hatea River, on the seaward/downstream side of the Te Matau a Pohe bascule bridge.  Works have started on this new facility which is expected to be open in June 2025.
