Skip Novak on Sailing
Skip Novak on Sailing: Words of Wisdom from 50 Years Afloat
Skip Novak’s book compiles the sum of his knowledge and wisdom gained from years of sailing.
Among Skip’s noteworthy sailing accomplishments are his four Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race victories since 1977. He finished second in these races on the British Cutter Kings Legend and third on Simon Le Bon’s Drum. In addition, Skip also was a project manager and skipper of the Fazisi, the first Soviet entry in the Whitbread Race.
In 1987, Novak built the 54-foot expedition yacht Pelagic, launching a second career of high-latitude adventures. Since then, he has spent every season in Antarctic waters, combining his passion for sailing and mountaineering to lead expeditions from the 74-foot sailing expedition ship Pelagic and Pelagic Australis.
While Skip covers a wide range of traditional skills such as celestial navigation, anchoring, and docking in the book, he is particularly interested in assisting new and younger sailors to answer the call of adventure. He also looks ahead, focusing on breakthrough technology that can help people stay afloat.
Enriched with firsthand knowledge and crafted to be both pragmatic and motivational, Skip Novak on Sailing is an invaluable resource for any sailor, regardless of experience level.
