Vieux Fort: Security at anchor a problem once again
Published 12 years ago, updated 6 years ago
Earlier in the year, it was reported that the security situation at the anchorage at Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia had improved and that thefts from anchored boats were no longer a problem.
Unfortunately this month Noonsite received a report from a cruiser who left his locked boat in the anchorage for just 3 hours while visiting the town. On his return he discovered that his boat had been broken into, the thieves swimming out to the boat and back. The marine police responded within 20 minutes and took a full report. Luckily some of the stolen items were later found on the beach but the perpetrators have not yet been caught.
It is advisable that a crew member is left on board at all times while in this anchorage.
