St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Bequia, Port Elizabeth: Night boarding and burglary whilst asleep – June 2013
Published 11 years ago, updated 6 years ago
June 17, 2013, we were anchored in Bequia, Port Elizabeth – 200 yards from the
dock for the Lauberge restaurant, near the north shore. There were about 5 other boats with people on board anchored nearby.
Our first night there at around 04:00 we had a person board our boat while we were asleep. We were on a catamaran and had the windows open. They came in through the front centre bridge windows. Whenever we weren’t on the boat everything was locked, but since 6 people were sleeping on board we opened up for ventilation.
They stole several electronic items including an iPad and a kindle book reader which were in the centre bridge area, next to the salon table.
One person heard a sound and looked out of the porthole and saw a dinghy with a person just outside. He shined a light and they took off. He went upstairs and looked but didn’t notice the 2 items missing until the morning.
We contacted the police, they came out to the boat and spent 2 hours writing a report. We tried to get a copy of the report before we left but they wouldn’t provide us with a copy. They said we would need to email them and request a copy. We have emailed and called and still can’t get the report for our insurance company.
