Saint Martin (France), Sandy Ground: Vessels Targeted in Early Morning Raids
A group of about five men went on an early morning rampage of theft, assault and burglary on an occupied as well as several unoccupied vessels in the Sandy Ground Bridge area of St. Martin (France) according to reports made to the Caribbean Safety and Security Net (CSSN).

Five men approached from land and broke into an unoccupied charter catamaran at the Polypat dock. They stole flares/flaregun that they then used to board another (occupied) yacht on the same dock and assaulted the crew.
The hooded men broke through the companionway of the occupied monohull and fired flares/smoke bombs into the cabin. A crew member used wasp spray to repel the attackers. The police were called and the Coast Guard summoned on VHF16. The police arrived about 45 minutes later and took a preliminary report. The captain received a head injury and was later treated/released from the hospital.
They later stole another unoccupied catamaran and crashed into the Sandy Ground bridge before abandoning the vessel.
All incidents were reported to the CSSN.
