Saint Lucia, Soufriere & Marigot Bay: Night boarding and burglary – October 2014
Published 10 years ago, updated 6 years ago
I would like to report two incidents that occurred in Soufriere and Marigot Bay, St. Lucia.
Soufriere:
We were moored at the Bat Cave, close to Soufriere, during the night 15/16 October 2014 with another catamaran called “Hazard”. The wife of the captain of “Thazard” woke up at around 4:00 AM, as she heard somebody on the deck. She woke her husband, who put on the light and went on deck. He heard somebody jump into the water.
He told me what had happened in the morning when I picked him up to go to Customs.
When I came back to my boat, my crew told me, the thieves had been on our boat too. Two iPhones, one camera, and some cash had been stolen. The boat was not locked while we were sleeping. The money was taken out of a wallet which lay on the chart table. The other items were also in the main cabin. I reported the incident to the local police who did not seem to be very eager to detect anything.
Marigot Bay:
On the morning of October 17th, we were anchored in Marigot Bay close to yacht “Kilimandscharo”. I had met the captain at customs in Soufriere the day before. The crew told us that somebody had stolen some 1.500 EUR and smartphone from their boat during the night. As I understood it, the money was in a wallet in the cabin, where one or two people were sleeping.
