Egypt – Port Ghalib Marina
By SY Lavinia – April 2013
Entrance to the channel (buoyed ) at 25°32,1N 034°38,6E. The channel is well marked both on port and starboard sides, free of danger, depths above 25 meters.
Call port control on VHF ch10 or 16, preferably 2 hours before arrival (?), otherwise well before reaching the entrance channel.
The Port Ghalib Marina is an artificial harbour – part of the tourist resort in a quiet desert-looking landscape, far away from any settlement. At the time of my short visit there were no cruising yachts in the marina; only tourist boats (which I guess are one of the few entertainment possibilities for the resort guests – aside from enjoying the nice sand, continual sunshine and clear sea water).
Berthing is stern-to the quay with electricity and water on the quay. No service facilities for yachts available. Slipway for smaller motor boats.
The Marina provides clearance formalities at these costs (April 2013):
– Government fee – formalities for foreign yachts (valid 1 mth): USD 30
– Immigration stamps – Egyptian visa (per person): USD 15
– Processing fee (marina acts as agent): USD 80 per yacht
– Berthing up to 8 hours in the marina (to complete immigration formalities): USD 13 (15 m LOA)
Other prices from the List (yachts 14-20 m LOA)
Weekly berthing fee: USD 11/mtr
Daily berthing fee: USD 2.80/mtr
Freshwater: USD 7/m3
Fuel /diesel: USD 1,28/ltr + refueling service USD 5 per vessel
Electric power supply: USD 0.28/1kWh
Marina Internet: USD 0.12 per minute
Hotspot Internet: EUR 7 per 30 minutes
Generally, there was a lack of visiting yachts. The cost of running this marina could not be covered by income from visiting yachts. Reception and offices have shut down. Papers, talks, payments done outside the admin building (no access).
