New Anchoring Restrictions in False Creek
Published 18 years ago, updated 5 years ago
New False Creek Anchoring Management: Effective August 1, 2006, an anchoring permit is required when anchoring in False Creek.
The 2007 summer season will be the first period of high season enforcement so it is uncertain how strict or effective policing will be.
Permits are FREE and can be obtained at the Vancouver Boating Welcome Centre. The Boating Centre is located on the dock under the north side of the Granville Street bridge at the False Creek Yacht Club.
Boaters will also be able to self-register at a kiosk located at the Stamps Landing dock.
• From April 1 – September 30, anchoring is permitted for up to 14 days (within a 30-day period)
• From October 1 – March 31, anchoring is allowed for up to 21 days (within a 40-day period).
• These are for each 30 or 40 day period, so, for example, you may be in port multiple times during any given period or you may also base out of Vancouver and anchor in false creek for 14 days, cruise out for 16 days and repeat.
Boaters may extend their stay in False Creek by moving to a marina after their allowable anchoring time has expired.
Boats that are anchored without a permit may be subject to tickets and fines up to $500.00. Abandoned vessels may be subject to towing.
False Creek is the usual anchoring ground for cruisers visiting Vancouver.
