REPORT POSTED JUNE 2012

Subject: Update on Green Turtle Marina

We left our boat there twice, once for six weeks (Dec 2011 to Jan 2012) and again for three days in late January.

The restaurant was not open and showed signs of abandonment. There was no wi-fi, and only the dock master had any English.

There are supposed to be two orange balls to guide you in, but in January one had disappeared. In strong easterlies, the entry can be challenging to say the least.

There are grand plans, including a travelift, and re-opening the restaurant etc. If those plans come about it will be a valuable addition to the area, but at present, they have work to do to become a first class operation.

REPORT POSTED AUGUST 2011

My boat “Tropicbird” and I have just stayed at a new marina on the Caribbean coast of Panama. The facility is Green Turtle Cay Marina, at 09-35.86N 079-26.33W – well out of hurricane threat and close to the San Blas islands.

Most of the Panamanian staff speak English and they gave us a warm welcome and made our stay relaxed and comfortable. We ate freshly caught fish at the restaurant whilst enjoying the WI-FI service. Unfortunately, we only had a couple of days available to indulge in the shore-power and facilities. It was all too short a stay before it was time to top up with clean fuel and potable water and sail on once again.

This was only a brief stay, but in the future, I shall leave my boat safe and secure for a longer period under the watchful eyes of the 24-hour security staff.

My comfort zone was expanded.
