Galapagos to Hawaii in February

Published 16 years ago, updated 5 years ago

I have read your WCR (World Cruising Routes) on the passage from Galapagos to Hawaii. We are in the Galapagos now and will be leaving on the 10th of February to Hawaii.

We are debating on which route is better to take, sailing the equator to 130deg and then direct to Hilo, or going on a direct course from the Galapagos to Hawaii.

In WCR we seem to be on the cusp of the routes as we are leaving mid-February. Do you have any info to share, advice or thoughts to this? Anything would be appreciated.

Ryan,

I organized the Hong Kong Challenge race in 1996 and the boats that sailed directly from Panama took longer than the one boat that sailed the traditional route close to the Galapagos…they sailed more miles and got to Hawaii on the same day as the first boat from Panama. So, try to get some weather info and follow your nose.

Good luck.
