Located at 18.03.49 south, 177.15.97 east, the bay at Likuri Harbour is well worth a visit.

This is a very pleasant stop if travelling along the Viti Levu coast between Suva and the Mananuca or Yasawa Islands. Robinson Crusoe resort is a resort which describes itself as ‘yachtie friendly’ and certainly we had a great welcome when we visited in August 2013. Yachts are invited to call the resort on Channel 10 once they are at the entrance through the reef and a resort boat will then come out to guide you;  there is no charge for this service and we never had less than 14 metres the whole way in. A yacht who did their own thing later in the day found themselves in 1.7 metres; the water is not clear enough to see the depths as a river enters the bay. Note also that none of the various paper or electronic is remotely accurate for this bay.  Anchorage can be found in good holding muddy sand between 2 to 7 metres.

Ashore, you will be welcomed and given an explanatory info sheet. Payment of an FJ1 fee plus buying a beer entitles you to use the bar and book in for meals which are all fixed price buffet style. The great drawcard of Robinson Crusoe is not just the beautiful and safe anchorage, but the twice-weekly night performances of fire dancers.

Fire Dancers: ©Suzie OhagangIt is a great evening’s entertainment and well worth timing your visit to be there on a Wednesday or Saturday night for the show. Bula!
