B.C. Victoria to Pt. Montt, Chile

I saw a quick description of a sailing route from Pt Montt Chile to Victoria BC in your cruising routes section. I am curious about your recommendations for the return trip… from Victoria BC to Pt Montt Chile.
The quickest way is probably the direct route: down the west coast of USA and Mexico, then possibly along the coast of South America. On this latter section, you will have light winds as well as a contrary current so it will mean a lot of motoring. You can stop in Ecuador (La Libertad) and Peru (Callao) for fuel. The longer but maybe better alternative is to sail from Mexico to Galapagos then to Easter Island. From Easter Island take the best tack to reach the prevailing W’ly winds which you will probably find in 32 – 34 degrees S. Once you have reached the area of prevailing W’ly winds you can lay a direct course for Puerto Montt.
