Australia, Darwin to Palau – best route and time
Published 16 years ago, updated 5 years ago
We are preparing to set off on a voyage to Palau. Two routes are possible either through Indonesia via Ambon going North East or through Torres Strait to the Solomon Islands. Our earliest possible departure from Darwin is mid to late March 2006. What would be your preference?
If you plan to go only as far east as Palau, the route via Indonesia (NOT Ambon, because of continuing troubles there) is quite feasible.
If you intend to visit more of Micronesia, then you need to avoid the prevailing NE-lies and starting from further east (north of Solomons) may make more sense.
From Darwin, the easiest way to get to Palau is via Indonesia. March/April is a good time as you have no risk of typhoons in the N. Pacific.
