Anegada Update

Published 13 years ago, updated 6 years ago

Anegada is very unspoiled, little developed and well worth a visit.

The approach from the SW corner going almost East into the buoyed channel requires concentration. The position of the buoys did not coincide with my paper charts, electronic charts (Navionics) or my pilot book! The buoys are difficult to see if the wind is strong and there is a lot of white water – but once spotted the channel is very clear.

Anchor (good holding in hard sand) or pick up a mooring once you are in.

Prices for meals and so on are as you would expect on a small island.

You can walk to the beach at the west end and will probably be the only person there. You can also anchor off this beach, but with the surge, the dinghy landing could be “exciting”. Having said that there is nothing to land for.

If you have a bike or hire a taxi, go to Loblolly Bay for another spectacular beach. But be warned – there will be some other people on it.

The main town, The Settlement, has little in it. The Iguana Sanctuary is, frankly, a disappointment.

Good luck if you go to see the Flamingos – they are normally at the wrong side of the pond and quite inaccessible (probably why they are there).
