Marinas:

Kirkwall marina is an all year facility located within the harbour, just yards from the visitor attractions of this ancient port. Marina Staff will give you a warm welcome you and can assist with information on local attractions and facilities. Water and power available on the dock.

Entrance to the marina is immediately to the east of a large grey ice plant on the pierhead. On arrival visitors should tie up in one of the visitor berths on the outside of the marina.

An alternative to Kirkwall, is the marina at Stromness, 16nm to the west.

Lisa from Orkney Harbours is responsible for the marina. John Orr works for Lisa, loves history and is also a keen sailor.  Contact: John@skalivoe.co.uk.

Anchorages:

There are many excellent bays with good holding where you can anchor in secluded comfort. There is also an anchorage in the harbour in about 3m, NW of the pierhead.

Piers and moorings:

Many of the islands have small piers or jetties where visitors are welcome to tie alongside. However, it is recommended to call ahead to the take advice from pier masters for overnight berthing. Well maintained visitor yacht moorings are also provided in several locations,

The Orkney Islands Council Harbour Authority Handbook contains detailed information on piers and moorings throughout the islands.
