Statia - Immigration
Statia Immigration Procedure for Yacht Crew
Statia is a Netherlands Municipality, the rules are more in line with the Schengen Agreement, although Bonaire is neither a member of the EU nor part of the Schengen Agreement Area.
Passports are required for all visitors.
Do I need a Visa?
In most cases you do not need a visa to transit through the Dutch Caribbean.
See the Government of the Netherlands website for more information.
If, however, none of the situations apply to you and you need a visa to enter, you can find out how to apply at the following links:
- Short Stay Visa (less than 90 days)
- Long Stay Visa
Length of Stay
If you do not need a visa to travel to Statia, you can stay for a maximum of 90 days in a 180-day period.
If you are a Dutch or US national, you can stay for longer: a maximum of 180 consecutive days in any 365-day period.
Other Visa Information
If you need a visa and intend to visit the Dutch Caribbean several times over a 4 year period, you may be eligible to apply for the Caribbean Carpet Programme. Find out more here.
A visa (if required) must be obtained prior to arrival. Find a consulate or embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands near you at http://www.government.nl/issues/embassies-consulates-and-other-representations/contents. The links in “do I need a visa” explain what is needed to apply.

Arrived April 23, 2022.. followed pre arrival procedures on Noonsite.. after anchoring we proceeded to the commercial dock just inside the jetty at the far south of the Harbor.. There is a dingy section on NE side of the dock. Visit the guard house. You will then be sent to Customs and Immigration just opposite the guard house. Told we can check out 24 hrs in advance. Everyone was super nice and inviting. Cheers!
Fogot to add.. while waiting on Customs paperwork, the Health Dept stopped to see our vaccination cards which had been previously submitted online.. Simple and easy. 🙂

No National Park Moorings to be seen now though the holding seems good and the Harbour Authority’s check-in/out fees are now at $35 (for two people on a 35′ yacht). Contrary to the Doyle Pilot Guide you can now clear out up to 24-hours before departure and you’d be well advised to do so; whilst posted Office hours are 08:00-17:00, we found that 09:30 to 15:30 were nearer to the actual hours.
