The coastal strip of Mazagon between the sea and natural sites surrounding it are a trait of this territory which is characterised by the beauty of its landscapes and the impressiveness of its beaches.
I spent one night, 30/6-1/7 2017 in this Marina with my 11.7 m sailing Catamaran. On checking in I showed my ship’s certificates/files and paid my harbour dues as instructed (clearly using the word CATAMARAN which I believe also is understood in Spain). On leaving, I thanked for the stay, retrieved my card deposit and sailed on.
In October 2017 I got an invoice from Mazagon, claiming me for the whole stay as if I had not paid. Luckily, I still had the receipts, and I noted the new invoice was higher than my receipt. I scanned the receipts and communicated through email; I, of course, felt the case was closed.
I then got an answer that I should have paid more, meaning an additional 15.25 Euros. No excuse for messing up on the accounts…
My response to this was that it seemed evident that they did not have much control in their sales or accounting processes; and that when visitors act correctly and pay as instructed they should not suffer from mistakes done by Mazagon. I never received any reply to this email.
In February 2018 I received a new claim, this time 15.25 Euros. On contacting the Marina by phone, it seemed they had no traces of the previous correspondence; communication was made very difficult by poor English.
As can be seen in other comments regarding this marina, I am not the first to experience these problems with Mazagon.
If you have to use this Marina: Beware! Make sure to save your receipts!
Answered the phone right away, unlike many other marinas. No English is spoken by anyone in the office. 27 euros for a 13meter catamaran. 15 Euro deposit for the key.
Shore adapter was like others on western and southern coasts of Portugal, we own one so didn’t need to rent. Very quiet and well-protected marina.
Thanks to the warnings in the profile above, we saved our receipts for Mazagon. One month after we visited, we received a registered letter at our home address requesting payment for 2 days plus electricity and gas (about 68 Euros). We contacted them via email with a copy of our receipt showing full payment for the days we were there. They returned to us via email saying they had made a mistake, and that we did not owe 2 extra days, but that we DID owe VAT tax which they forgot to include, coming to about 21 Euros.
When compared to the other APPA ports with the same price structure (Cadiz, Rota, etc) it was clear that they had indeed forgotten to add the VAT. Mistakes happen, but it seems curious that they always happen in Mazagon and that they have this reputation for trying to extract money from people at a later date. Very disappointing. Beware.

The docks had a strange shore power outlet that required a special adapter that must be rented for a €60 deposit (plus the €20 for the marina key).
Granted, you get it back, but still, go ready with a lot of cash on hand. A little too much trouble if only staying for one night because the office doesn’t open until 10:30 am to get all the deposits back: if short-staying, there is an anchorage with mooring buoys immediately north of the marina. There will be a large ship wash, but otherwise okay.
No help at mooring, there is some current in the marina. We would recomment to anchor outside a little bit north-west up the river. €55 for a 16m boat incl water and current.
