My wife and I have just bought a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45.1 in Spain and while we wait for some modifications we have spent the last month in Marina de las Salinas in San Pedro del Pinatar.
We are having quite a few additions put on the vessel and we have relied on Jose our broker from Marina Estrella to organise it all for us as our Spanish is not really what you would call fluent. We’ve had a stainless steel arch custom built with davits and 4 x 150 watt solar panels installed along with MPPT controller and inverter. We also had a new Zodiac dinghy and Mercury 8hp outboard delivered. Plus we needed a new life raft, standing rigging and antifouling, Jose has organised everything. He’s an absolute Gem. It’s all getting done on site either in the water or on the hard.
We are paying 800 Euros a month for a 15m berth, that price includes water, electricity and WiFi. The WiFi speed is good at 13 Mbps down and 6 Mbps up. That upload speed is fantastic if you are uploading YouTube videos like we do.
The marineros are very helpful and will be on hand to help you when departing or arriving at your berth. They will also happily phone for a taxi, which will be needed if you plan to buy provisions, as the marina is a very, very long walk from the nearest supermarket. One option for provisions that we have seen used is going to the Mercadona (supermarket) online and placing an order for home delivery. You will need to register on the website and they will want a passport number and contact phone number.
The town of San Pedro del Pinatar is a LONG walk especially if you’re carrying shopping back to the boat. Slightly further away, but only a 15 minute taxi ride is San Javier and they have a big centro commercial with a very large Carrefour store where you can buy everything from camping equipment to groceries.
The shower/toilet facilities are good although they are showing signs of wear and tear. The water takes a while to run hot but when it does it’s piping hot. They are cleaned daily.
The laundry is 5 Euros per load and includes laundry liquid and softener. The dryer is 1 Euro per 10 mins. The laundry is functional but not user friendly as there is nowhere to sit and read, nowhere to place your clean laundry and it is very dusty.
There are a lot of choices for dining in the marina ranging from 10 Euros for the daily menu right up to top of the line steaks and everything in between.
There is no corner store in the marina so we have resorted to popping into the Spanish tapas restaurant and buying a baguette each day for 1 Euro.
There are several marine chandlers and prices vary greatly.
The marina is open to the public, so always lock your vessel when away. For security there are CCTV cameras along all the docks and the marineros are always out and about.
The marina is well sheltered from winds of any direction.
Without a car we are very much confined to the marina, we did rent a car for 2 weeks when we first got here and we had to arrange a taxi to take us to San Javier airport (15 mins) to pick it up.
If it were not for Jose having his office here and organising all the work we need, this is probably not a marina we would have chosen to stay at as it is too far to walk to anywhere.
