Description:

Directly north of Cape St Francis on the Eastern side of the Cape St Francis peninsula is the small harbour of St. Francis Bay on South Africa’s south coast.

Port St. Francis is roughly midway between Port Elizabeth & Knysna and is the only harbour of refuge between those two ports.

This protected harbour was built for the chokka industry (squid) so is predominantly used by commercial fishing fleets, however, there are provisions for recreational vessels.  With just a few shops and restaurants, walking trails and some good nearby surf spots, it is a safe and secluded spot.

Position:

34° 08’35″S, 24° 50’52″E (harbour entrance)

Update Nov 2018 – The harbormaster recommends and would prefer is contacted at least 72 hours prior to arrival to make arrangements. Johan – 082 657 0855

The entrance is dredged to 2.8m, but after strong weather, the port could be closed until dredged again(hours or days, they have a dredging barge ). Hence why it’s recommended to contact them before. There is also limited space available on usually private moorings and the owner of the mooring must be contacted. They can also tell you the possible options for moorings for prices etc…

The place is beautiful, nice secluded and very safe harbour with a small shop and restaurants, walking paths and a large grocery store a few kilometres away. There are surf spots at walking distance.

    Beautiful stop on the coast!
