Slovenia Health for Visitors
Slovenia’s medical care is well-distributed, with health centers in all cities and individual clinics in small towns. All Slovenian settlements are provided with emergency medical assistance, including helicopter services, if necessary.
Citizens of the European Union or EEA, including Swiss nationals, can access necessary medical care in Slovenia with the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
Croatian citizens can also access health services in Slovenia using their health cards under a special agreement.
Citizens of other countries are advised to obtain international travel insurance before traveling to Slovenia.
Vaccine-Preventable Diseases:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have recommended vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B and Measles.
Tick-borne Encephalitis vaccine may be beneficial for individuals who engage in outdoor activities in areas where ticks are likely to be present.
Food and Water:
The quality of drinking water varies widely throughout Slovenia. In some areas, the water in towns is of higher quality than that in the countryside. However, Slovenian drinking waters are hard (high contents of harmless limescale), leading to rare cases of water poisoning, resulting in diarrhea and gastric disorders. Bottled water is widely available.
The Slovenian market offers food that is free from genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Most of the food on sale in Slovenia is produced on farms in the country.
Prescription Drugs:
Pharmacy services are available in most Slovenian towns and cities for minor problems like colds, headaches, fever, and insect bites, without prescription. There are also 24-hour pharmacies available in the cities.
