Description:

This attractive old town lies at the mouth of the Rio Lima, approximately 50nm south of Vigo. It is famous for its decorative filigree jewellery whose design dates back to the time of the Moors.

The marina here is very sheltered with adequate facilities and is close to town so provisioning/fuel is easy.

The wind can gust strongly in the afternoon, and during the summer months, this means the beach and harbor entrance will be packed with kite-surfers, windsurfers and jet-skis. Sail up-river past the fishing/industrial harbor for some shelter.

Position:

41° 40.33’N, 08° 50.45’W (river entrance)

There is no fuel pump in the marina, but there is an alongside fuel berth for petrol and diesel in the fishing harbour near the red-topped tower at 41D41.25’N,008D50.27’W. Office hours only.

Waiting pontoon was packed already. Swing bridge was opened for us after radio request and doing circles in river for 10 minutes. Marina staff very friendly and helpful and clearing in easy.

Marina was nearly full but they gave us a berth at the defunct fuel pontoon. No working fuel berth at marina, but gas station very close. No Wifi, but showers (small fee), laundry and toilets available with key from office.

Town is very nice and clean (even has underground rubbish bins with garbage chutes to avoid the constant bin smell that plagues many other places in warm climates).

Several supermarkets not far from marina and large shopping centre at train station. Take the funicular up to Santa Luzia for an amazing view of the river valley. Celtic ruins are somewhat underwhelming and lack signage.

I paid 30€ for 1 night at the waiting pontoon for my 37ft boat on 10 August 2017. But earlier in the season a friend didn’t pay anything.

Showers need to be paid separately. The whole afternoon we heard jet ski noise. The town is full of tourists but must be very attractive outside the season.

    Viana Marina
Call on VHF CH 9, (it said ch 11 in our pilot book) if no response just moor on the waiting pontoon. Opening times as stated, although they close for a break 8.30 – 9.00 pm!

We moored up on the waiting pontoon and we stayed so no need to go into the marina. Water and electricity on the pontoon. No wifi. Good recycling – near the waiting pontoon. Staff speak good English.
