Tonsberg - Docking
Note: The channel markers on the approach from the Oslo Fjord through Husøyfjord, (SE of Tønsberg canal) across the wide Træla bay and through the Tønsberg canal, are marked away from, not towards, Tønsberg (red to starboard, green to port, on the way in).
There are extensive charted anchorages south of this marked channel at Træla.
You can practically tie your boat up to any one of several outdoor restaurants or go to the guest harbour a bit further west for peace. The guest harbour can get a bit uncomfortable, but not dangerous in a strong SW. Avoid the outside of the pontoons if possible.
There are also many new local marinas on the approaches to the canal.
The new bridge opens 5 minutes before the old bridge for E-bound and 5 minutes after the old bridge for W-bound vessels. Bridge opening times are daily, 0905, 1205, 1405, 1805, 2005, Saturday and Sunday: also 1605. In the winter the times are 0905, 1205, 1405 and there are no openings at weekends or on bank holidays.
