For details on clearing into New Caledonia, see the Formalities page.

New Caledonia has toughened up on vessels stopping at the Loyalty Islands on both inward and outward clearance. The only clearance port for New Caledonia is Noumea.

However, if a yacht (or yachts) wish to enter or depart the country from Lifou, they must notify Immigration in Noumea at least a week in advance and pay for an Immigration official to fly the round trip plus all expenses including hotels and meals.

We (pronounced Way) is not a port of entry or clearance and yachts may not stop there or anchor anywhere until after clearance in Noumea. Special exceptions can be made for rallies – like the Australian https://www.downunderrally.com/ and the http://www.islandcruising.nz Rally.

Full details on the ports and anchorages in the Loyalty Islands are on the Rocket Cruising Guide to New Caledonia https://cruising-newcaledonia.com
