The fees below are for visiting private sailing yachts.

Yacht crew is classed as “passengers” if they do not have a Seaman book. If they have a Seaman book, they do not have to pay some fees.

YACHT FEES

Cruising the Mergui Archipelago

There is a basic fee of 1000US$ per visit which needs to be paid in cash (in clean US$ bills) to the Ministry of Tourism in Kawthaung (mtt.kawthoung@gmail.com).

This fee is not refundable, even if you choose to never actually visit Myanmar with your yacht.

Marine Department Fees:

US$250-600 for a 40ft-120ft yacht.

These fees are dependent on the size and GRT of the vessel. You must have a registration certificate that shows GRT.  You also require a valid captain certificate and engineers certificate.

MTT Agency Fee

This fee is for MTT providing an “agency service” to receive your documents and collect your US dollars. The fee is Thai Baht 5000.

Guide Fee

It is compulsory that you have an MTT provided “guide” aboard your yacht at all times in Myanmar. The “guide” has no real navigation knowledge and is there to liaise with the Burmese military, should you come across them in the Archipelago.

MTT charge a fee for providing the guide which is US$30 per day.

You are additionally expected to pay the guide a salary of Thai Baht 1000 per day.

CREW FEES:

Myanmar Visa Fee:

Visa Fee of US$120 per person. This fee is waived for crew with a valid seaman’s book.

National Park Entry Fee:

Entry fee up to the Northern tip of Lampi island US$ 120 – valid for up to 5 days.

Entry fee for the Southern Mergui and North of Lampi island US$ 170 – valid for up to 5 days.

After day 5 there is an additional US$ 20 – to be added per person per day.

This fee is not charged for the crew of a vessel. There must be at least 1 passenger on a vessel for each trip.

In total, fees will amount to about 3,500US$ for a 5-day visit

Hi – how current is this information about Myanmar? Seems like much of it is several years old – are vessels still required to have an MTT agent aboard when cruising?

Hi Ian, thanks for your question. It seems nothing much has changed in Myanmar according to our contacts in SE Asia. A Guide is still required aboard, fees are the same (plus a 1000US$ extra per trip as a one off fee per trip – related to nothing special). No license is needed ahead of time now, you just pay per trip. MTT still handle things and Customs, Immigration and Harbor department still board in Kawthaung – same as before. Paperwork to be filled out before is the same and time frames to get it in are the same. I hope that helps.
