International Clearance:

For full details on arrival and departure procedures for see Republic of Marshall Island Formalities.

This is a convenient place to clear out of the country after visiting the north islands of Rongerik, Rongerap and Bikini and saves having to beat against the wind all the way to Majuro.

Officially, to clear in or out on Ebeye you need a cruising permit from the Consul of Ebeye which has to be obtained through the “department of internal affairs” in Majuro.

Yachts that visited here in 2023 have reported being permitted to enter without a cruising permit after talking with the Ebeye Port Authority, as long as they undertook no cruising around the atoll.

Customs and Immigration Officers are stationed here (May 2023). However, this has not always been the case (and yachts are charged to fly staff in for clearance), so check before arrival.

Jaluit can also be used for clearance, but yachts will be charged to fly staff in for clearance as none are stationed here.

General Process:

On arrival, contact officials on VHF Channel 16 for instructions where to come alongside for clearance. If there is no space, it may be necessary to anchor.

Clearing Out at Ebeye

Port authorities have their office behind the big green building by the ferry docks.   The Port Captain will require you to fill out some paperwork and will also help in contacting customs, immigration and quarantine for clearing out.

When paperwork is completed, it may be necessary to transport the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine officers to your boat for an inspection.

Clearing out of the Marshalls from Ebeye is very easy and straightforward. Anchor and dinghy to the small boat marina. Head directly to Customs, (near NTA) Immigration is two doors down. After the C and I, paperwork is complete a Customs inspector may want to inspect your boat.

You will transport him to your dinghy. A Port Clearance will be issued after the inspection. As of January 2019, no fees were required.

New rules for 2018 yachts intending to visit Kwajalein Atoll. Yachts are no longer allowed to anchor or approach the US Military Islands of Roi-Namur or Kwajalein Island. For many years visiting yachts were allowed to anchor at Roi-Namur and use the services of the small boat marina, including fuel, store & laundry outside the security zone, but no more. Only Pre-approved, sponsored yachts can approach and anchor.

Fuel is no longer sold to even approved yachts. But is available in Ebeye. These rules seem to change with every new Base Commander, so inquire before relying on old published information. To visit the US Bases every individual will need an employee of the base to sponsor them, after a full background check. Allow a month for submission, check and approval. FYI it is unlikely any Non-USA passport holders will be approved.
