I have been to the Portomaso Marina a couple of times with my family and I can vouch that this marina is truly worth it is 5-Anchor Rating.

The Marina is kept in pristine state and is situated in the heart of St. Julians, the list of things to do here is endless!

Portomaso Marina is within walking distance from Paceville, Malta’s number 1 spot for clubbing and parties. Super and Mini markets, casinos, pharmacies, banks, post offices and a multi-storey car park are all surrounded by the Marina, adding comfort and value.

One can also easily berth a vessel and check into one of the many hotels that St. Julians has to offer. There are also many top-class restaurants where one can savour various cuisines such as Italian, Chinese, Brazilian, Thai and Japanese specialities.

    Posted on behalf of Semerdjian

Went to Portomaso marina and paid for a full year, with the intention of leaving our sailboat there for some time; we left after a month with a great sense of disappointment and disgust.
Been visiting Marinas for 25 years and this was our worst experience. This is how our experience turned out.

At the marina, we were told we cannot use your own plank, cannot leave the tender in the water, there were cockroaches in the toilets, toilet keys that didn’t work, packed like sardines, and the Harbour Master himself through the newly purchased seat we had left on the pontoon in the water, during his morning round (no warnings or requests to move it).

Our boat was damaged by another boat while we were away, the berth assistant who must have witnessed this failed to inform us, and the culprits never helped with their insurance despite promising to do so.

Few people sleep on their boats, and we felt requests for information at the marina offices, about services in the vicinities, provided us with vague answers most probably for the benefit of having to use the adjacent ‘Boatcare’ office, who then acts as middleman and overcharges for any service, including laundry. The adjacent Boatcare, you may have guessed, belongs to the son of the harbourmaster.

Portomaso is, in reality, more of a toy marina, whose purpose is to provide a view for the expensive apartment complex above.

Never ever again. The area around the marina and the Hilton hotel are nice, but one can use these by anchoring in nearby St Julian’s bay (Coordinates: N 35 55.11 AND E 014 29.62). Alternatively, Gzira Manoel island was not too far and hospitable, although the surroundings less luxurious.
