If you are sailing to Jamaica from the south, you can go to the capital – Kingston. A good place to enter is the Royal Jamaica Yacht Club. Coordinates 17*56.8 north, 76*46.6 west. The website is out of date, the mail and phone numbers there are not correct.
Phone number of the club manager +876-995-7739 Peter Morris, mail: manager@rjyc.org.jm
The club is open from 9 am to 6 pm 7 days a week.
Peter will help you organize border and customs formalities.
Inside the marina there are no places for transit boats. The entrance to the marina is narrow – about 15 meters and very shallow. Anchorage is northwest of the entrance to the marina, it is well protected from the waves. There is sand on the bottom. Be prepared for the fact that your anchor chain will catch on something on the bottom, there are broken pillars, old anchors and other debris.
We anchored in front of the royal jamaican yacht club in march 2017 for a week. We felt safe and we didn’t have any issues at all. Of course we took the normal safety precautions; dinghy up and lock the door at night. We could use the great amenties of the yacht club for a very small, fair fee. The yacht club management is very friendly and extraordinarily helpful.
