Kingston - Docking
Kingston Docking
There are three marinas in the Kingston area and several anchorages.
The Royal Jamaica Yacht Club maintains a marina-type facility about 12 miles from Kingston, where visitors belonging to reputable clubs are always welcome. Although the yacht club offers excellent security including CCTV and permanent security staff covering the facility 24/7, this does not extend to boats anchored outside the marina. Inevitably owners of yachts anchored off the marina should follow reasonable security measures applicable to anchoring in any Caribbean open commercial harbour.
The website is reportedly out of date. The phone number of the club manager, Peter Morris is +876-995-7739 and e-mail: manager@rjyc.org.jm. The club is open from 9 am to 6 pm 7 days a week. Peter can help organize border and customs formalities. Inside the marina there are no places for transit boats. The entrance to the marina is narrow – about 15 meters and very shallow. Anchorage is found to the northwest of the entrance to the marina and well protected from the waves. The bottom is sand though be advised there are broken pillars, old anchors and other debris fouling the bottom.
Morgan’s Harbour Club at Port Royal has similar docking facilities, as well as fuel and water.
Peter Black’s Dry Dock and Marina is immediately to the east of Morgan’s Marina. It is a small T head that can accommodate a limited number of boats.
A few miles from the entrance is Lime Cay. This is a protected anchorage, used by many of the local yachtsmen. It is backed by a white sandy beach.
It is not recommended that you anchor in Cow Bay or Bull Bay, both of which lie about 6 to 8 miles SE of Kingston. Yachts have been boarded here in the past.

We anchored in front of the royal jamaican yacht club in march 2017 for a week. We felt safe and we didn’t have any issues at all. Of course we took the normal safety precautions; dinghy up and lock the door at night. We could use the great amenties of the yacht club for a very small, fair fee. The yacht club management is very friendly and extraordinarily helpful.
