Be careful when you anchor in front of Spalmatore di Terra Beach at Tavolara Island. You have to keep at least 200m from the beach, even if swimmers don’t come out that far. The Port Authority is extremely diligent in checking your position and give you very expensive tickets if you get too close. In no other areas of Sardinia have I found such extreme monitoring (elsewhere to stay really close to the shore is tolerated or not even checked).

Note that at Olbia marina there is no laundry despite what they say; only the most expensive service you will ever use. Nice marina though and yes the supermarket which is a 5 minute walk away is the biggest I saw anywhere in the Mediterranean

In Oblia, we anchored comfortably and for free in the large bay to the south (left as you approaching Oblia) of Porto Romano.

It seems the crime continues at Mole Brin (old commercial quay)in Olbia. Our boat was broken into in broad daylight (middle of the day) in July. The thieves seem to be watching as they struck when we left the boat to go to the supermarket. They used a winch handle (that we foolishly left out) to bash the lock off the hatch. This was despite having boats on both sides of us. The took our computers, a camera and binoculars. The Local police were not interested, just took a report. We were told that we were the fifth boat in 3 weeks. I have since heard about another. Unless you have excellent locks do not leave your boat unattended alongside the quay here.
