Does anyone have any recent (post Brexit) info regarding checking out of Italy (Schengen) at Brindisi and heading to Montenegro? I have bought a EU Vat paid yacht in Italy last season, British registered and have a UK crew on board. There is talk on some forum discussions regarding a Constituto document, something my boat does not have, as it was bought in Spain by the previous owner pre-Brexit and only sailed to France and Italy. Is this likely to cause me a problem in departing Schengen? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks

Hi Richard, the Constituto is only required for non-EU VAT paid yachts – see Italy Clearance [https://www.noonsite.com/place/italy/view/clearance/#] which reads:

All yachts that have not paid VAT in the EU must apply at the first port of call for an entry declaration, called a “Constituto” (transit log). See more details in Documents. – https://www.noonsite.com/place/italy/view/documents/

If, as you say, your yacht is EU VAT paid, and you have proof of this, you should not have any issues clearing out of Italy.
Note, Schengen is to do with the people on board the boat, not the boat.

    Report from SY Freedom:

I have now for the last 4 years used Brindisi for my Winter storage of my yacht a Moody 422.
    The name in Brindisi is:
    CANTIERE NAVALE DANESE
    Danese Yacht Service info@cantieredanese.it

This yard is the most secure and professional yard I have visited for many years.
The infrastructure is perfect for reaching Brindisi in the Winter months.
I am normally cruising in Croatia and Greece, therefore the location is perfect, and the price compared to Croatia is half.

We can highly recommend Cantiere Navale Danese Giovanni in Brindisi (+39 0831 412636 email: info@cantieredanese.it) for cruisers needing work on their boat. We pulled in late morning a day before summer holidays, with engine problems, generator not working and bent stainless steel after a bit of a rough passage. Rosario spoke excellent English, was very service focussed and organised the mechanics and engineer to do all the work within a matter of hours, we couldn’t believe we were ready to go again by the afternoon. Rosario gave us some tourist information and we ended up having a look around town, staying the night on their service dock and leaving early the next morning. Overall a fantastic experience!

We can also recommend Francesco at San Severino in Bari who also speaks excellent English and was very proactive in helping get our generator fixed.

One word of warning about the Marina di Brindisi: While it IS a very safe place in any conditions and has a very helpful staff, it is built upon the area of an old mussels farm. And the little beasts still like the area.

So if you stay there for the winter as we did, make sure to employ a good diver to clean your propeller and hull thoroughly! We were barely able to maneuver at all during our first attempt to leave the berth.

Besides that little fact, I can only recommend Marina di Brindisi if you want to park your boat for a longer time. For living on the boat it is a bit too isolated unless you have a car on hand.

Also to mention: They have a service station in Brindisi for servicing your life jackets and liferaft. They even pick up the liferaft at the boat and bring it back.
    Ask for BRIN-MAR.

Hi Michael, I m very new on “noonsite”
and I’m looking for a berth in the South of Italy. Would you please be s kind to tell me a little bit more about your experiences in the Marina Brindisi. I just want to know if the noise of the airport is disturbing very much?
      Thanks for help!??

Very safe marina, close to the airport but a distance from the town centre.
We used a very reliable and friendly mariner by the name of SALVATORE to keep an eye on our boat during our absence, to run the engines and to clean and prepare her prior to our arrival and he did an excellent job! We can highly recommend him. Tel +39 347 115 8871.
