Iceland Arrival Procedures for Yachts

General Procedure

Immigration:

Once in port, Immigration (Border Police) will visit the boat and inspect all passports.  See Immigration for visa details.

Customs:

The captain must inform Customs of the yacht’s arrival. There are specific Customs rules for private vessels and a number of forms to be filled out at arrival and departure from the country.

  • Form T01: Captain’s report on arrival and departure
  • Form T03: Ship Reserve List
  • Form T05: Crew List
  • Form T06: Passenger Log (if applicable)
  • Form T09: Declaration of Health

All forms are accesible via the Skatturinn website: Iceland Revenue and Customs – scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the form links.

The forms are filled in by the captain and should be given to Customs who will stamp/approve them. In some ports this may be done by e-mail.

Customs clear in vessels 24 hrs. At the moment Customs does not charge Customs fees or lighthouse fees for smaller sailing boats and yachts. This is up for review and might change in the future.

See Customs for more details.

Domestic Cruising in Iceland

No cruising permit is required. Once you get first clearance into Iceland you are free to move around to other ports with no further contact with the authorities required. You will then have to get clearance again before leaving the country.

Iceland Departure Procedures for Yachts

When departing Iceland it is best to be in contact with Customs as soon as possible so that outward clearance can be done at the requested time. A time frame of 6 hrs before departure is the minimum requirement. [Cruisers clearing out of Reykjavik reported that Customs asked for a call 2 hours prior to departure].

Form T01: Captain’s report on arrival and departure – must be completed and given to Customs prior to departure.

    COVID 19

Iceland is open for UK/EU pleasure crafts. As for now there is a 14 days quarantine that begins when you left the last port before reaching Iceland, and includes the time being at sea.
No later than June 15th there will be testing (or quarantine) for all incoming visitors and nationals, made by the Landspitali teams, in Reykjavik area. Tests will be free until end of June, after this the cost will be 50 000 ISK per test. Results are expected within 24h.

It is also important to note the exact definition of quarantine in Iceland : it only means you cannot meet other people (than the ones you are living in with) and so you can take your boat and sail, walk ashore, and so on, as long as you do not meet other people, especially inside buildings.
