Nuuk - Docking
ALERT:
19 July 2024: Nuuk Harbor is out of bounds and is not accepting any sail boats to either moor or anchor due to overcrowding. Some small bays around are available, but with no kind of access, facilities or service. As of 2025, Nuuk Harbour Master announced that only passenger cruise ships will be permitted to enter its harbor.
Our thanks to Victor Wejer, OCC Port Officer, for this information.
Mooring and Anchorages
Nuuk has a very safe, protected harbor, however it is very busy and there is a lot of traffic all year long. The Nuuk Marina is very popular but has no summer places available – up to November 15, 2024 and there is no waiting list.
It may be possible to get a guest berth but according to the marina manager “you must contact the shop out on the harbor as they manage the guest berths. A guest place costs DKK 200 per person/day.”
The main docking facility for yachts is known as the Lystbådehavnen. It has some electric access points and a fee is charged for docking here.
Anchoring is possible inside the harbor, but not very practical as the harbor is so busy.

Victor Wejer – OCC Port Officer – reports 19/07/2024:
Please note, major Greenland harbour NUUK is out of bounds and is not accepting any sail boats to
either moor or anchor due to overcrowding.
Some small bays around are available but with no any kind of access, facilities or service.
As of 2025 Nuuk harbour Master announced that only passenger Cruising Ships will enter its harbour.
Its harbour expansion planned is not expressed yet. The rest of Greenland is free for anyone to enter.
Every repairs are possible in Nuuk, but with higher prices than in Europe or Americas. Nuuk shipyard is renown to be extremely expensive.
There is always the possibility to lift up a boat at the shipyard (the slipway is reserved for large commercial ships) but the cost could again turn out to be high.
Estimates are just for an indication and you can end up to pay 3 times the said price. There are various cranes up to 110t. Many repairs possible but you have to look for individuals to help you, the situation change from one year to another.
A new shop opened with many boat parts as well as new engines, etc. and is located at the fuel dock.
