Pithagorion (Samos) - Docking
Moor bows/stern-to the west quay in the inner harbour. The bottom is sand and mud with good holding. Beware of the shallows to port (marked by an unlit beacon) at the entrance to the inner harbour. With the Meltemi blowing, strong gusts will be experienced in the approaches.
The shelter from northwesterly winds is excellent, however, rates are reported to be high (does include water and electricity).
The yacht marina here is located just to the east of the outer harbour. Facilities are basic and all supplies and chandlery items must be purchased in town, just over a mile walk along the rough coastal track. Most supermarkets deliver to the marina if you spend over a certain amount.
It is not permitted to anchor in the bay just outside the harbour. There is a large bay beyond Samos Marina that can be used for anchoring, however, it’s a long distance from the town.

There is now a fuel berth inside the marina. The supermarket and chandlery are still shut but the cafe is open all year.
Reported 2 May, 2018
I just wanted to update cruisers on Samos marina. This season there is no supermarket and no chandlery at Pythagorio, Samos marina.
The nearest shops are in town approx 1.3 Miles along the rough coastal track. However, most of the supermarkets in town will deliver if you buy enough and George at the chandlery in the main street has lots of stock and is very helpful.
The marina staff are also very helpful. Our friend’s starting battery failed today and they delivered a new battery to his boat within an hour or so.
The marina is returning to life quickly now on 2 May with all the European cruisers returning to their boats, including us.

Coming from Didim in Turkey, which was cold whilst efficient, warm hospitality was the experience. In Didim very few people over-winter on their boats, being more a “garage” than a marina.
In contrast, Samos Marina was full of life, coffee bars crowded all day, restaurants and now also a supermarket has just opened.
I spent the winter in Didim only for the low travel costs from Italy, but the higher costs to reach Samos are worth the atmosphere and way-of-life of the Marina.
There is no price list available. Price inquiries result in totally different prices from day to day. Be careful and fix before stay.
Also be careful while you let any works on your boat to be done: we had to pay a “commission” of 33 % on these works to the marina “direction”- otherwise we were not allowed to leave the marina.
Restaurant is open, but no shop nor chandlery. We did not make the experience of a very friendly staff 🙁
Sadly the marina facilities have deteriorated over the past few years. The chandlery & restaurant have closed. There is still no security and it appears the hotel & swimming pool have never opened.
The whole area appears run down and neglected. The staff are still very friendly & helpful. The mini market was not open in early June but the owner will deliver if you visit his store in Pythagorio town.
