Camaret-sur-mer - Docking

Update May 2015: The damage caused by the gales in winter 2013-2014 to the pontoons in both marinas has been repaired and boats can berth normally.

Port Vauban, just inside the northern breakwater, is the usual berth for visiting craft.

The inner part of the harbor is close to the town and offers a greater degree of shelter in very strong winds. There are two berthing areas here; Port Styvel, adjacent to the causeway, is for local boats only and Port du Notic, south of Port Styvel, may have some visitors berths although it is unknown when the damage here will be repaired.

During the summer, there are also 20 or so of white visitors’ buoys outside Port Vauban.

Beware if you are using the 24hour fuel berth at Camaret-sur-Mer. My debit card was debited €600 even though I cancelled the transaction because I couldn’t get the pump to dispense any fuel. It wasn’t until after I returned to the harbour master’s office I saw a notice on the window stating the this may occur but any balance would be refunded “within a few days”. I didn’t receive a refund until three weeks later. This was the only example of this type of occurrence during my 11 week cruise from Scotland to the Mediterranean despite me buying fuel elsewhere during the trip. If the notice had been placed at the pumps, I wouldn’t have taken the risk and would have refuelled somewhere else. Even if I’d taken on a full tank, I’d have been considerably out of pocket until the refund came through as my tank only holds 150 litres.
