Faroes Arrival Procedures for Yachts

When travelling to the Faroe Islands, you are entering the Kingdom of Denmark. This means that the rules for entering Denmark also apply to the Faroe Islands.

It must be noted that, although a dependency of Denmark, The Faroe Islands are not part of the European Union.

Ports of Entry:

There are six port of entry: Tórshavn, Fuglafjørður, Klaksvík, Vágur, Tvøroyri and Vestmanna.

General Clearance Procedure:

On approach contact the harbour office of the port you are heading to, to give them an ETA. Ports of Entry are manned 24 hours.

You will probably generate some interest on arrival as visiting yachts are rare. It is highly likely the Harbour Master will notify the Police and Customs that you have arrived.

Normally the Police board the yacht on arrival and give Customs clearance, but if not, the captain should contact Customs at a port of entry.

There are no entry fees.

The annual Grindadráp whaling season in the Faroe Islands takes place between June and September. This event has attracted protesters and there will be an increased security presence during this time.
