San Salvador, the nation’s capital, is a one hour drive by car from Bahia Del Sol or two hours by bus.

Shopping, banking and internet services are available in Zactecoluca, 1.5 hrs from Bahia Del Sol. Buses run to and from Zacatecoluca to the Costa, throughout the day. The last bus departing Zactecoluca for Bahia del Sol is at 16:45 hrs.

Local buses are available at the front gate of Hotel Bahia del Sol. They run approximately every 30 minutes. If you are going to San Salvador you will get off the bus at the south terminal then need to hire a taxi to take you to your destination. If you go to Zacatecaluca you can get off the bus and walk around town. There are a few taxi drivers you can hire to take you round trip or one way.

Rental cars are available through Hotel Bahia del Sol or La Palma Moorings.

The international airport is 40-minutes away. You can take any taxi from the airport to Bahia. If you have an early morning departure the hotel will arrange for a taxi to pick you up no matter what time you need to leave.

The WAZE app on smartphones works fine in this area for general navigation.

    On March 7rh 2024, a Moody sailboat with 6’9″ draft went hard aground while crossing the bar. Boat was laid over on its side and subsequently lost its keel and rudder. The boat was quickly looted and was a total loss. The boat and owner had been into Bahia del Sol before and was under the guidance of the bar pilot. The pilot boat has no depth sounder or sonar equipment.

    The previously derelict 30 ton travel lift on Isla Cordoncillo has been refurbished and relocated to Paradise Fishing Lodge where it is expected to begin regular operation this season. Services and storage are being reworked, contact Paradise Fishing Lodge for details.

    Bill and Jean are the organizers of the annual El Salvador rally, and They also are the organizers of the pilot boat. You can contact them in advance via email at ELSALVADORRALLY@AOL.COM and they will offer advice on when to schedule your bar crossing and what conditions are likely to be like. You can hail them on Ch 16 when within range of the estuary.

    They are also hosts extraordinare and have connections to find what you need in El Salvador, and also host a weekly cruisers get together at their home on Isla cordoncillo.
