General Information
Passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the date of the intended visit.
Passports must be carried at all times when ashore. Police carry out random checks on foreign nationals.
After the vessel has been inspected by the authorities, in some ports crew members may have to apply to the Frontier Inspection office for landing permits.
Visa Information:
A visa is required by all visitors, obtainable in advance from Chinese embassies or consulates.
However, China recently extended Visa-Free Travel for a number of countries which allows tourists to enter for up to 15 days until end of 2025.
European countries now eligible for visa-free entry include Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, and Switzerland.
Other countries eligible for visa-free entry include New Zealand, Australia, Brunei and Singapore.
The length of a visa varies from one to three months. Travel permits may also be required for visits to certain areas. If planning to visit Hong Kong and return to China, a multi-entry visa must be applied for.
Citizens of most countries can visit Macao without a visa.
