Channel Islands Health for Visitors

The Channel Islands are not part of the UK and therefore the health services on Jersey and Guernsey are not part of the UK National Health Service (NHS).

There is a reciprocal health agreement between Jersey and the UK. Visit the States of Jersey website for additional information regarding this agreement.

The UK and the Bailiwick of Guernsey also have a reciprocal health agreement. More information about this agreement on the States of Guernsey website.

Medical insurance for all crew is strongly recommended.

As in the UK, an ambulance can be called by dialing 999.

Guernsey:

When traveling to the Islands from a non-reciprocal country and needing medical care, you are responsible for covering the cost of all medical services, including primary care, hospitalization, pathology, radiology, pharmacy, physiotherapy, dental treatment, and ambulance service.

More details at https://www.gov.gg/healthcareforvisitors/travellers.

Jersey:

The Emergency Department at Jersey General Hospital is for emergency treatment only, which is given free of charge, although treatment or care after that may not be. If you do not have travel insurance, you may need to pay for any treatment which is not classed as an emergency. This could include paying for repatriation, which can run up to £5,000.

The Emergency Department does not issue prescriptions for medication which is lost or forgotten.

If you have a non-urgent medical issue, contact any local GP or the “out of hours” GP service [+44 (0) 1534 445445]. There will be a charge for this appointment which the individual GP practice can advise on.
