Develop Nova Scotia (previously The Waterfront Development Corporation) manages the Halifax Waterfront with its nine wharves stretching along over half a mile in the harbour area of downtown Halifax. The Halifax Harbourwalk map is a useful resource for visitors.

There are five major yacht clubs in town. The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron is particularly welcoming to visiting yachts and has good facilities. It is located on the port side, just inside the Northwest Arm.

For those looking for a more sheltered location, consider going further into the Northwest Arm and either picking up a mooring or finding dockage at the Armdale YC, the Shearwater YC or anchoring out. This end of the Northwest Arm is much closer to town than the RNSYS and there are several large grocery stores within walking distance, as well as a bus service into town.

Posted on behalf of Christian Tirtirau, SV Northern Light:

Cruisers transiting the East Coast of Canada should seriously consider Shining Waters Marine as it is one the best marine yards in the Halifax area. Situated at the head of St. Margaret’s Bay, the yard is run by competent, reliable professionals and the customer service is excellent.

Contact Director of Operations Eric Smith at +1 902 826 3625, a sailor himself with a great understanding of blue water equipment and cruisers’ needs in general. This is a great place to prepare for a return passage to Europe via the North Atlantic or if heading north towards Newfoundland and Labrador or Greenland and beyond. SWM has plenty of space, friendly staff, a welcoming atmosphere and the surroundings are stunning. Highly recommended!
