Description:

Mooloolaba Harbour lies north of Moreton Bay at the mouth of the Mooloolaba River. The harbour is protected from the offshore swell by nearby Point Cartwright. It is a popular tourist resort as well as home to a large fishing fleet.

Entrance Notes and Cautions:

The Mooloolah River entrance is defined as a coastal bar so anyone entering the river to head for the Mooloolaba Marina is reminded that coastal bars are dynamic in nature with conditions constantly changing. Plan your crossing carefully, with careful consideration to prevailing conditions, the state of the tide and the draught of your vessels.

There is a shoal patch extending from the end of the eastern breakwater in a westerly direction across the entrance channel and a dredge (the CSD Navua) is working (June 2023) so be aware of its associated floating pipeline and anchors when navigating the bar. Contact the dredge master on VHF Channel 16 or 82 to ensure it is safe to pass the dredge.

The latest information on the river bar at Mooloolaba can be found at the Brisbane Pilotage local notice to mariners page on the Queensland Government website.

Information on other locations in the Brisbane Pilotage area (South East Queensland is also available from the Queensland Government website.

Nearby coverage includes: Scarborough and northern Moreton Bay, Tin Can Bay and Bundaberg.
