Timely Reminder about Italian Insurance Requirements
Published 13 years ago, updated 6 years ago
With the new sailing season for the Mediterranean about to start, a timely reminder about Italian insurance requirements is advisable.
Any yacht sailing in Italian waters is required to have third party liability insurance of five million euros.
This insurance should be issued by an insurance company having reciprocal arrangements with a recognised Italian insurance company with an Italian translation, or be bought in Italy through an Italian broker.
It is illegal for yachts to sail in Italian waters without such valid third-party insurance and yachts which do not have it may not be allowed to leave the harbour.
The cover can be purchased locally from an Italian insurance company.
