According to local news reports, old Galician sailors say the sea returns everything – sooner or later the tide ends up bringing to land what is not its own and a good example of this was the catamaran “Lucky Cat”, which had been adrift in the Atlantic ocean since July 2023.

“Lucky Cat” was abandoned in the mid-Atlantic when the United States Coast Guard rescued the skipper, but could not take charge of the boat.  The USCG wrote a contact number on the boat in case it washed ashore somewhere or was spotted by someone else.

According to a news report, the owner contacted the Spanish Coastguard in September advising them that the boat might turn up along the Spanish coast and so it proved to be the case in early November 2023.

SV Lucky Cat drifted ashore at Muros on the Galician coast in north west Spain.
