As of 5th October 2011, the rules regarding foreign yachts remaining in Norway for more than 6 weeks when their owner is absent have, at last, been amended.
“Sailors visiting Norway can easily leave their boats here over the winter, and continue the journey along the coast the following spring,” says the director, Louise Holtoug Amundsen, in customs and tax section of the Customs and Excise. “Boat owners must apply in advance for Customs for such permission. After one year, boat owners can also apply for Customs to store the boat one more year in Norway, where this is necessary”, explains Holtoug Amundsen.
Her department has created a standard application form for boat owners, but it is only in Norwegian at the moment.
