Cuba: Hemingway International Yacht Club Welcomes all Cruisers for its 20th Anniversary Celebrations

Published 13 years ago, updated 6 years ago

This year sees The Hemingway International Yacht Club of Cuba (HIYC of Cuba) celebrating 20 years since its foundation.

Whilst the Anniversary Reception is on May 21st, the first activity to celebrate the occasion has already taken place – the attempt by American Diana Nyad to swim across the Straits of Florida between Havana and Key West.

Commodore, José Miguel Díaz Escrich, invites the international sailing community to visit the HIYC of Cuba and participate in the occasion. In addition to multiple seminars and celebrations, events will include Optimist, Laser, Hobie Cat and cruising boat races; jet ski, canoe, and kayak races; and a shore fishing tournament at Havana Seafront.

Check the yacht club’s website for more information and a full list of events: www.hemingwayyachtclub.org.

The Yacht Club, now with over 2,000 members across the globe, was founded in 1992 with the aim of “fostering the love of pleasure navigation, sea-related tourism, and sports, by means of the organization of nautical competitions and events.”

Commodore Escrich has worked with great passion at building international relationships and has traveled the world to establish partnerships and collaborations, visiting yacht shows and yacht clubs while presenting and sharing his thoughts and knowledge. He is highly respected across the marine network, as is shown by the number of associations that he represents in Cuba, as well as the many reciprocal memberships that HIYC enjoys with other clubs.
