Cook Islands: Met Service issues Warning for Tropical Cyclone Nat
The Cook Islands Meteorological Service has issued an official tropical cyclone warning for the South Pacific Island chain as a low pressure system intensified into a Category One cyclone named Nat.

The Fiji Meteorological Service named the tropical depression which formed near the Cook Islands and upgraded it to category 1 Tropical Cyclone Nat.
In its latest special weather bulletin issued at 8.40am New Zealand time, Fiji’s Meteorological Service said Tropical Cyclone Nat was moving east southeast at about 15 knots. A nautical gale warning was issued in relation to the storm and an alert is in place for the Southern Cook Islands.
Tropical Depression Warning
The CI Met Service along with the Fiji Meteorological Service issued warnings on Monday evening February 5 that a tropical depression located about 630 kilometres northwest of Palmerston Island and 990 km west-northwest of Aitutaki was expected to intensify into a Category One tropical cyclone in the following 24 to 48 hours.
A strong wind warning was in force for land and water areas of the Northern Cooks with a coastal inundation alert also issued for the group. The Northern Group was expected to experience sea flooding of coastal areas, especially during high tides.
The Fiji Met Service also expected the tropical depression to intensify into a Category One Tropical Cyclone within six to 12 hours bringing gale force winds and thunderstorms as it approached the Cook Islands Group from the northwest.
