For non-French speakers, the social, cultural and commercial landscape of the
French Antilles can be a challenge to navigate.
In Martinique, yachties and locals have collaborated to host a Martinique Cruisers Net, entirely in English, covering the main yachting centres of Le Marin and St. Anne.
The Martinique Cruisers Net launched on Monday, October 17, 2016. It broadcasts on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 0815 AST on VHF channel 08.
The corresponding Facebook group – Martinique Cruisers Information – is already open for membership at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1779736518916457/
The purpose of the Martinique Cruisers Net is to welcome visiting yachts, promote safety and security, share useful information about the island, provide answers to FAQ’s and open a channel for social interaction and activity planning.
Multiple English-speaking net controllers have volunteered from the cruising, tourism and local business communities.
Regardless of language skills, cruisers should visit Martinique. This lovely island combines a first world, European society in a Caribbean cultural setting – advanced economy, quality infrastructure, a good record of yachting safety and security . . . and of course, outstanding shopping!
