On 21 January the USCG Rescue Coordination Center, Miami, FL asked Boatwatch.org assistance in identifying a dismasted, unoccupied, and adrift sailing vessel located in position 25-57.7N / 075-01.8W, or approximately 80 NM NE of Eleuthera, Bahamas.

The monohull – SV Archipelago – was a Bavaria ’46 and registered in Stockholm, Sweden.

It was discovered that a solo Swedish sailor was rescued from the SV Archipelago by a cargo ship in May of 2020. He had departed Ft. de France, Martinique on May 5, 2020 and was dismasted on approximately May 13, 2020, 500 nm from the nearest port.

You can read about the dismasting on the skipper’s blog here

He communicated and coordinated with rescue authorities via a Garmin In Reach and was rescued by the Cargo Ship Singapore Express at 26 07.360 N and 056 53.280 W.

Eight months later and the yacht is still floating. It has now been found by a Bahamian tow/salvage company and is en-route to Freeport, Bahamas.
