If wishing to sail in both the Mediterranean and Asia, then deciding on how to get from one to the other is not an easy decision.
One alternative to either running the risks of transiting ‘Pirate Alley’ or the long haul around the Cape of Good Hope, might well be taking advantage of one of the yacht transport services.
‘Dockwise’ offers many routes worldwide including Australia and the South Pacific to the Mediterranean and has been doing so for several years, although they have no plans this year for a service from SE Asia to the Med this year (2011).Ed. See update – this is no longer correct.
Another player in this field is Sevenstar Yacht Transport which is planning several voyages from Phuket (Thailand), Singapore, Hong Kong or Galle (Sri Lanka) to Turkey, Malta or Italy in spring 2011.
The current details of these voyages are:-
MV Happy Delta (built 2011, 2 x 400mt and 1 x 120mt cranes)
Sailing from Doha Qatar and Jebel Ali to the Mediterranean.
ETA @ Damman (Saudi Arabia): approx. 15/25 March
ETA @ Doha (Qatar): approx. 18/28 March weather
ETA @ Jebel Ali (UAE): approx. 21/31 March
To Marmaris (Turkey) and Genoa (Italy)
The Good News
With sufficient demand, there is now a possibility of a pick-up in Cochin, India in March.
