Caribbean: Bequia, Admiralty Bay – Break in
Published 14 years ago, updated 6 years ago
We were broken into whilst ashore at dinner, August 30th, 2010 at Bequia, Admiralty Bay, Saint Vincent, and the Grenadines.
The thieves broke open one of our locked hatches and crawled inside, only to be scared off by our dog.
Thankfully, nothing was taken, just damage to the hatch.
I reported this incident to the police who said they would come out to investigate, but never showed up. It seems that almost all of the incidents here occur whilst the crew are out to dinner and it´s probable that someone is watching from shore.
I recommend leaving on as many lights as possible and not to anchor far away from other boats, especially at the far end of Princess Margaret Beach. Locals tell me there has been an upsurge of break-ins ashore as well, which could be attributable to the local “drug” problem…
