Where is Ismailia?

Situated approximately halfway along the Suez Canal, on the western shore of Lake Timsah, Ismailia is 100km from Cairo, 145km from the pyramids, 335 km from Alexandria, 450km from Hurghda and Sharm el Shekh and 600km from Port Ghalib.

Ismailia is the overnight, mandatory stop, for yachts (all vessels under 300T) transiting the canal.

A development plan to improve the facilities at Ismailia Yacht Marina began in April 2022 and was completed in September 2023 with the marina now offering 120 berths and enhanced bunkering services and maintenance facilities.

See Suez Canal Transit Information for more details.

The town, which is about 1km from the marina, has some quite attractive areas with parks and many old colonial houses (including Ferdinand de Lesseps).

Cruiser Highlights

Water, food and diesel can be delivered, but you can’t go out of the marina area if you have already cleared out of Egypt. Good spot for leaving boat and exploring inland. Noo time limit for how long yachts can be left here. Entry visas and crew sign on/sign off, can be carried out here.

Position

Mohamed Mohsen of the Suez Canal Authority Yachts Team reports:

Many of you are well aware of the renovations taking place at the Ismailia Yacht Marina that will be open within 6 months to provide services to all those who call at it.
We are doing all we can to make things as tolerable to you in the time being, and that’s why we listen to all your feedback, negative and positive, to help us in the process. That being said, we will suspend the collection of mandatory berthing fees at the Ismailia Yacht Club till its opening day, while any berthing upon your own request will be under the normal charges.
We only get better by working together.
Thank you so much and looking forward to receiving you all.
